Some things I generally like in vids are focus on worldbuilding/neat visuals, very specific concepts, character studies, f/f if relevant, vids that are high energy/fast paced/lots of movement, and vids that make me have big feelings (of any kind). But feel free to ignore any of this and make what you want to make - I'm most excited to see something you're excited about making.

In general I am okay with gore/body horror and actually I think it's fun and cool, but I'd prefer if you don't concentrate it significantly more than the source material (so like yes please show me weird fungi growing on corpses but not an entire vid that is ONLY body horror).

Music-wise, I listen to a lot of folk and pop, but I love discovering new music and would be equally happy with something outside of those genres. Please include subtitles if it has lyrics (or other dialogue).

Scavengers Reign (Cartoon)
I've been trying to come up with a pithy explanation to sell/warn people irl about this show and what I've been running with is bio-horror? For a 12 episode cartoon this went so hard on worldbuilding. Everything is alive and extremely cool and miiiiiight eat you. It's also an ensemble cast show with a bunch of cool characters with satisfying arcs.

I particularly love Levi and Azi, both as individual characters and as friends, and I'd been super happy to see a vid about one or both of them. A worldbuilding vid would be amazing here also - I'm really interested both in the planet and its various creatures and I feel like we see SO much cool macguyvering from the cast and that could be an interesting thing to have in a vid?

Annihilation (2018 Garland) [SAFETY]
What if bio-horror was live action? I'm sticking this right after Scavengers Reign because they're very tied together in my mind and there's a couple shots in Scavengers Reign that I'm pretty sure are paying tribute to Annihilation? I'd be super down for something that combines the two of them if you're willing to brave the mixed media, but I also love what Annihilation is doing in its own right. I am once again very excited about a worldbuilding focused vid. What if there were some fucked up mutations?? I'm also very interested in the biologist as a character and her relationship with her team.

Just going to combine these here - I've read the manga and am happy with a vid that draws on either or both of them.
I love media about food so I was unsurprised to be into this but I was surprised at how much that was actually about the detailed and thoughtful worldbuilding. I love how much the dungeon is an ecosystem and how various characters' personal journeys let us explore that ecosystem and magic and how it all works together.

I like pretty much everyone in the main cast and would be happy to see a vid focused on any particular characters, but especially something including Marcille!

승리호 | Space Sweepers (2021) [SAFETY]
What if you could fight capitalism and eugenics with the power of a spaceship and found family? This movie was a lot of fun and has lots of different things that I'd love to see in a vid!

Character-wise I'm most interested in a focus on any of the women, where I am of course including the robot (and also the baby). Also super happy to see something ensemble cast/found family focused or something action heavy.

Some Like It Hot (1959) [SAFETY]
A classic! It's got cross-dressing! It's got Marilyn Monroe! It's got the St. Valentines Day Massacre! I love this movie and how fun and queer it is. I'd love pretty much any vid for this.

Problemista (2023) [SAFETY]
This movie was so good. It's about a young man from El Salvador who comes to NYC to make weird artsy toys despite an increasing number of obstacles in his path. Despite being a movie with a lot of horrible things happening all the time it was also overall fun to watch and fairly uplifting. This is another one where I'd be happy with pretty much any vid for it. It could be interesting to focus on or at least include some of the more fantastical aspects of this movie?

In general I like vids with big feelings (whether those are positive or negative) and/or lots of action/movement. I'm happy with any kind of music, but please include subtitles if it has lyrics.

天官赐福 | Heaven Official's Blessing (Cartoon)
While the book is pretty long, this cartoon is pretty short so far and absolutely gorgeous.

I requested some specific characters because I think it'd be fun to do something ghost focused for this theme. Ghost city is both kind of goofy and kind of scary, and I'd enjoy leaning into either of those aspects. I've read the book so I'd also be super happy with something that incorporates future ghosts. If you're not feeling like leaning into the ghosts I think it could also be cool to do something with Xie Lian's immortality stuff if you can make that work with the current footage available. Also happy to see hualian and/or beefleaf!

Falin is the obvious resurrection here, and I'd be super happy to see something about her (or her and Marcille???) I'm also a big fan of the world building here in general and specifically the way the dungeon resurrects people would be super cool to have a vid about if there's enough to work with there. Something about how Kabru's party keeps accidentally dying maybe? I've read the manga and would be happy with either a manga or anime based vid. I'm a big fan of all the main characters so I'm happy with wherever you focus.

The Locked Tomb Series | Gideon the Ninth Series - Tamsyn Muir
I love the worldbuilding in these books! I have no idea how you'd vid the necromancy parts, but it'd be super cool if someone did! I'm particularly interested in necromancy, and things like necromancers killing planets and the world-building of the river, but something about the ghosts in Harrow would also be on theme and fun to explore. Really whatever works for you!

The Old Guard (Movie 2020) - safety
Listed all the women because I like to see them but feel free to go in whatever direction works for you! Pretty much anything for this movie would work since the main plot is about coming back to life. I'm more interested in resurrection as badass action hero trick (and resurrection as a bad thing because you are still dying) than the potential sadness of living forever here.

Multi-fandom: time loops
I'm a big time loop fan, and I'm intrigued by how they fit into this theme. Time loops as a way of resurrection? Time loops as a way of constantly facing your own death? Time loops as a form of hell? I feel like there's also potentially some way to go in the opposite direction here - the afterlife is a form of time loop? In particular I was thinking about the Good Place for that, but I'd generally be interested in seeing how shows that are explicitly about an afterlife fit in with time loops.
The media I've seen from the tagset that explicitly has time loops is Palm Springs and Russian Doll. Some other things I've seen with timeloops and strong themes of death are Reset (cdrama 2022) and See You Yesterday (2019). I'd appreciate it if you included at least one of the things I've mentioned here but feel free to branch out into other time loopy things!

The Good Place (TV)
I really loved this show, and basically anything about it is on theme. I'm most into our core cast (Eleanor, Chidi, Jason, Tahani, Janet, and Michael) but I'm also happy to see other characters! It could be cool to do something focused on the more explicitly hell aspects of the show or the bit we see of heaven or some of the weird afterlife bureaucracy.

As of signups I've only seen one episode so this isn't going to be a very specific request. But I love the undeath/rebirth?/being taken over by the planet's lifeforms aspect and I think it'd be cool to see in a vid!

Bound (1996) [SAFETY]
Lesbian heist movie! I had so much fun watching this movie. I'd most like a vid that's also just a bop focused on the f/f and/or the heistiness (and not taking the darkness inherent in fighting the mob too too seriously).

Fire Island (2022) [SAFETY]
Gay pride and prejudice retelling set on Fire Island! I loved how much this was both very much a modern queer friend group and also a beat for beat pride and prejudice adaptation. In terms of vid ideas, I'd love to see something focused on Erin, if there's enough screen time for that, or on Noah's friend group and the ensemble cast energy of this movie. A Noah and Howie friendship vid would also be great. (But I am not opposed to a more straightforward ship vid for either or both of the main couples, they were cute!)

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
A fun puzzle game where you play as a ghost trying to solve mysteries (including your own death?) through what amounts to a series of rube goldberg machines. As a mystery game, I don't want to go into too much detail and spoil the mystery, but I had a lot of fun playing it (and I've also been informed that it's fun to watch as an lp if you don't like puzzle games), and it's got very dramatic character animation that I think would be fun in a vid. I'd be happy with any vid for this game, I liked pretty much all the characters who got much screentime, the various friendships, the tragic(?) detective romance, and the worldbuilding in general. As you will see if you keep reading this letter, I'm also a big fan of time shenanigans.

开端 | Reset (TV 2022)
This is a relatively short (16 episode) cdrama about two young people who find themselves in a time loop on a bus that's about to blow up. It's not without flaws (there's a couple moments that are annoyingly focused on giving you a Moral Lesson) but it's a really fun time loop and does a nice job both being funny and heartrending at times. I love the ensemble cast of bus passengers, and I'd love to see a vid that focused on them as a collective or one about Lu Di (the cat apostle!!) in particular. Or something about the time loop itself? Also happy with a focus on the Li Siqing/Xiao Heyun romance.

Russian Doll (TV 2019)
More time loops! I knew I was going to love the time loop aspect of this show (which is VERY well done and gives you some great worldbuilding) but I also pretty much instantly fell in love with Nadia. She's SUCH a good character, and I love how much of an asshole she is. So I'd be most interested in a vid either just focused on the world or about her or her relationship with Ruth or Alan.

As of writing this dear vidder letter, I am in the process of watching s2 so I haven't specifically requested anything based on that yet (letter may update). Heads up if you're checking out this show (or s2 of this show) that s2 is partially about the holocaust. DNW Nazis or swastikas in this vid. I am happy with an s1 only vid.

Not a hard line DNW, but the scene in s1 where she coughs up a shard of glass is at the borderline of my limit for gore. So don't feel obligated to completely leave it out if you need to use it, but if so I'd prefer to have it be broken up a bit/no super long lingering shots.

沙海 | Tomb of the Sea (TV)
I'm very fond of this tomb show's tonal choices - it goes really dark at times in a way that I think is cool, but it's also doing some tonal whiplash and switching between genres pretty quickly. I'd love to see a vid for the teens (individually or as a whole group), Liang Wan, Hei Yanjing, or Su Nan. Feel free to also include or focus on the iron triangle (or Xiao Hua, who has a few great moments in this movie despite his tragic lack of screentime). If you've got ideas that are weird or goofy or out there, go for it!

You're welcome to include other tomb shows/movies if you so desire, but I still haven't seen mystic 9.

The Wheel of Time (TV)
This show is gorgeous, and also full of cool characters and worldbuilding. It'd be cool to do a magic/worldbuilding focused vid that did something with the expansiveness of the world and everyone's focus on history and how it repeats itself. I'd also love something character or relationship focused for Moiraine or Nynaeve or the whole two rivers ensemble.

As of writing this dear vidder letter, I haven't seen s2 so I'm not specifically requesting anything based on that (letter may update), but I'm planning on it before reveals so feel free to include it in your vid.

I'm fine with some gore, but please don't include the torture parts of the whitecloak torture scenes.
I haven't read the books (and definitely don't plan on reading 14 wheel of time books before January), so nothing that will be incomprehensible without that please.

Everything Everywhere All at Once [SAFETY]
This movie was so good, and I'd really love any vid for it. Something that focused on aesthetics and matched the over the top energy would be really fun, as would a character study for any of the main characters, or something that focused on any of Evelyn's relationships. I particularly have a soft spot for Waymond and how the Waymond/Evelyn relationship plays out in the various universes.

Fire Island [SAFETY]
I loved how much this was both very much a modern queer friend group and also a beat for beat pride and prejudice adaptation. I'd love to see something focused on Erin, though I'm not sure whether she got enough screen time for that, or on Noah's friend group and the ensemble cast energy of this movie. A Noah and Howie friendship vid would also be great.

Couple of Mirrors
This was a fun show, and I really enjoyed the republic era setting and the murder mystery/coverup aspect. I'd love something that played with those aesthetics, and/or a character study for any of the female characters, or a Yan Wei/Xu Youyi ship vid.

Daomu Biji Umbrella Fandom
I love tomb shows, and I love that there's a multi option this year! I'd be excited about basically anything you want to make here. I love the iron triangle, I love heihua, and I'd love to see a character study for any of those people. I also love side characters, particularly the female characters (though I would prefer something that isn't super focused on how they all die). For more major characters, it'd be cool to use the umbrella fandom format to focus on how characters grow and change over the years or to do something chaotic and cut them all together. I'd also be happy to see something that was more focused on the plot (such as it is), either in a look how chaotic and contradictory this all is way or trying to piece together a single coherent explanation way. An action/tomb puzzle/monster focused vid would also be fun.

dnw: Wu Xie/Xiaoge only
I haven't seen mystic 9 so feel free to use shots from that or whatnot, but I'm not going to be able to follow anything that focuses a ton on that era.

Tomb of the Sea
Full disclosure I'm writing this letter having only seen 8 episodes of this show. But I will have finished it by January, and I'm already far enough down a tomb show rabbit hole that I know that I'd like to see vids for this. General dmbj likes/dislikes more or less apply here. To give some sand sea specific thoughts, I love Su Nan a whole lot, and I'd love a vid about her being badass! It'd also be super cool to do something with the tone shift of this show and a focus on Wu Xie being the villain/falling into the same role as Sanshu did for him but for Li Cu.

This is How You Lose the Time War
I loved this book, and I loved how detailed its aesthetics for everything were. It could be cool to have a vid that portrayed one (or several) of those very specific settings where they find letters, or the contrasting aesthetics of the two factions, or some kind of red/blue ship vid.
